Susan A. Plastaras

Sue Plastaras, 92, died peacefully in her home on August 25. She was a member of the first class to graduate with BS degrees from the Cornell University School of Nursing. Her career in nursing would span 65 years.
Most of her early career, while raising small children, was spent in home care nursing. At age 50, she went back to school to earn a graduate degree in nursing administration from the new program at Villanova Univ., and set up her own home health care agency, Upper Bucks Nursing Service. The latter years of her career were spent in case management, advocating for injured workers. At age 65, and for the next 20 years, she headed up the family business, TLG Research Associates, in the field of ensuring quality medical care for injured workers.
She was a tiger nurse and early adopter who spoke up for causes she believed in. With the help of the ACLU, she took on Erie County to win the right of pregnant nurses to remain on the job. She also worked for the right of fathers to be present in Labor and Delivery rooms. Sue has been crocheting for the last 80 years and many of you are perhaps recipients of her beautiful work.
Sue was an unconventional mother and grandmother of the large and vibrant family, for whom she made life interesting. She is survived by Jim Plastaras, her husband of 56 years, 7 children, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Sue's life in the backyard of their Family home, Saturday afternoon, September 13th at 2PM.
