Edward was born on February 5, 1946 to Irene Banks and Luther Terrell in Newport News, Virginia. Over 40 years ago, Edward relocated to Somerset, New Jersey upon his discharge from the United States Navy. He worked for Digital Computer Corporation for over 25 years before retiring and working part-time at Pearson Education for another 10 years. While in New Jersey, Edward met Holly Williams and her daughter, Cassandra; they would spend the next 40 years together. She was by his side on the night of his transition.
