Edward P. Borgia, 94, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 24, 1931, in Erie, he was the beloved son of the late Assunta and Santo Borgia.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Borgia (Kennedy); his children, Karen Borgia and Mike Borgia (Cathy); his granddaughter, Amanda Allore (Chris); and great-granddaughter, Amber Miller. He is also lovingly remembered by his stepchildren, Brian Makela (Karen) and Brad Makela (Julie); step-grandchildren, Benjamin and Joseph Makela; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Borgia and Helen Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Tullio, Joseph, and Daniel.
A proud graduate of East High School, Class of 1948, Ed was a standout athlete who excelled in multiple sports. He earned a scholarship to Gannon College, where he played on the inaugural Golden Knights football team in 1949 under the leadership of coach and future Erie Mayor Louis Tullio.
Ed served his country with honor in the United States Air Force. In December 1957, he joined the Erie City Police Department, where he rose through the ranks to become Lieutenant of the Juvenile Division. He dedicated nearly four decades to public service before retiring in 1996.
Even in retirement, Ed remained active in his community, working as a security officer at Gannon University's Wehrle Hall and later with the Port Authority at Lampe Marina.
Ed will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to those around him. He had a deep love for travel, exploring both the country and the world. Among his most cherished memories were trips to Italy with his brothers and adventures across the United States with his beloved Kathleen-especially their favorite destination, New York City.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ed found joy in playing tennis, fishing, and cheering on his favorite teams. He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Notre Dame football, and collegiate wrestling, and he never missed an opportunity to share his passion with others.
A private service was held at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum on Monday, July 21st. Arrangements were handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Mission & Ministries Foundation, 5031 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506-1249. Condolences may be sent to www.dusckasfuneralhomes.com.
