Edward M. "Ed" Cantineri, age 70, of Corning NY, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Bath Veterans Community Living Center, Bath NY.
Born in Nagasaki, Japan March 1,1954, Ed was the son of Michael L. Cantineri and Cassandra "Yoko" Takahashi Cantineri.
Ed grew up in Corning and graduated from West High School in 1974. In his younger years Ed was very active in many sports, including football, lacrosse, skiing and tennis. He was a great lover of all music and was very proud of extensive album collection. Ed played guitar and was teaching himself piano until his hands were no long able. Together with Ann they traveled to Buffalo to see his music idol Elton John in concert.
Ed was a veteran of the US Air Force retiring with a honorable medical discharge. After leaving the military Ed returned to Corning working at Corning Glass Works until his retirement in 1987.
Many knew of Ed's health challenges however he faced them with a smile on his face never complaining.
Ed and Ann Marie Clark, "the girl next door", were married in March of 1981, they would have celebrated 44 years of marriage in March. They both loved telling their "how we met" story to anyone who would ask how they met. Three years later they welcomed their daughter Emily Elizabeth whom Ed always called "my beauty".
Ed was an avid hockey fan attending many semi professional and professional games. With Emily by his side taking care of his every step they traveled to NYC to see his beloved New York Rangers play at Madison Square Garden. It was a dream come true for him.
Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife Ann Cantineri, cherished daughter Emily Cantineri, father Michael L. Cantineri, sister-in-law Linda Briggs-Smith, brother-in-law Dean M. Clark along with many nieces, nephews that he loved dearly. Special cousins Jennie Labarcca and family and Kathleen "Kate" Cotter. Dear friends Tom Cortright and Tim Leach who Ed forced to love hockey.
Ed was predeceased by his mother Cassandra "Yoko" Takahashi Cantineri, father in law Robert D. Clark, mother in law Amelia Maio Clark, sister in law Diane"Dee" Clark, great nephew Ryan M. Perry, sister in law Lisa D. Clark and special cousin Sammy Cantineri.
Ann and Emily would like to thank the amazing staff of the CLC2 at the Bath Veterans Hospital for their loving and compassionate care they showed Ed.
Ed will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Bath, NY at a future date. A celebration of Ed's life will be announced by the family.
