Edward Cartier Choiniere of North Kingstown passed away peacefully at Bayview Scalabrini Long Term Care Sunday May 4, 2025. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the beloved son of the late Edward Francis and Beatrice Marie (Cartier) Choiniere of Cranston, RI.
Eddie attended Cranston West High School where he lettered in Hockey and Track and Field. He was an Army veteran who served in Bad Kreuznach, Germany with the 8th Infantry Division using the GI Bil to attain an MA in Engineering via RIJC and SMU. Ed was a proud member of the 1978 RIJC (CCRI) NE Champion Hockey team.
He started his professional career in Silver Springs, Maryland with Link Simulations Division of Singer working with the US Navy P-3 Orion aircraft and the Poseidon Class Submarine simulators. He deployed with the first Poseidon system to Naval Station Great Lakes, Chicago. He returned to RI working for the Newport based Naval Undersea Warfare Center throughout the 1980s before joining Browne and Sharpe (later Hexagon) working with CAD software and metrology applications for automatic welding systems and 3-D print and fabrication solutions. He retired from Hexagon as a Manufacturing Engineer, Measuring Systems in 2017.
Eddie was a lifelong bachelor, avid reader, guitar player, music lover, fisherman (member of the RI Saltwater Anglers), and a sports aficionado of all New England based teams. Ed was truly a lifetime amateur comedian and mayhem maker with a “wicked” sense of humor. He loved the ocean and spent many idyllic afternoons cruising Narragansett Bay where fish grew to fear him. He was a great friend and mentor to many who was always willing to step up to help someone in need. He enjoyed his privacy but never failed to make the traditional raucous Friday evening Mimosa and shrimp cocktail fueled Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Family Feud “shout fests” with his parents at 151 Hyde St.
Eddy was a devoted caregiver to our parents and dutifully attended to our mother during her long stay at Steere House in Providence before her passing in 2020. He is survived by brothers Mark J (Cindy) of Calhan, Colorado and Jay M (Victoria) of Wrentham, Massachusetts, beloved uncle to their children (6) and grandchildren (19.)
Visiting Hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be held at NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, on Sunday May 18, 2025, from 4-7PM. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday May 19, 2025, at 10:00am at the Nardolillo Home. Burial with Military Honors will be immediately following St. Ann’s cemetery in Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward and Beatrice Choiniere’s name to: Steere House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 100 Borden St., Providence, RI 02903
