Edward Joseph Clearwater unexpectedly passed away on June 9, 2024. Ed was born on February 17th, 1967. He welcomed his daughter, Crystal, into the world in 1985. In 1987 he met his wife, Becki, and they were married in 1989 before bringing home their first-born son, Eddie. In 1993, they completed their family with their second son, Jeremy. Becki was not only the love of Ed's life; she was his rock and the center of his universe. Ed and Becki were happily married for 35 years and shared a lifetime of memories together.
Ed had many hobbies. He loved duck hunting, fishing, riding, working on his motorcycle, and driving his hot rod. He enjoyed spending time with his two black labs, Caster and Camber, and a cat named Archer. His four grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved trouble-making. Ed especially loved racing. This was his favorite hobby and the racetrack was his happy place.
Ed was a hot head and a hot commodity in the racing world. From a young age, he was infatuated with anything that had a motor. He landed on his true passion in go kart racing. Not only did he love to go racing with his son Jeremy; but they started a shop together where they mentored and coached young drivers. ECR MotorSports was Ed's most prized possession. He had so many dreams and goals he wanted to achieve for himself, his son, and his drivers. Ed loved all his drivers, took them in as his own, and became a huge role model to many. Fast Eddy was bad at remembering names but good at creating them; "Lead Foot Songer," "Kid Rocket," "Jett McFly," "Kami Kazi Cody," and "Evan Almighty," just to name a few. He was known as Fast Eddy because he lived by that phrase along with, "No BS, just speed." He always lived life in the fast lane and often suggested others should as well.
Edward is survived by his wife, Becki; daughter, Crystal (Scott); his two sons, Eddie and Jeremy (Courtney); three granddaughters, Leila, Zella, and Remy; one grandson, Avery; his sister, Linda (Kelly); four brothers, Tony (Polly), Chris (Cherie), Jason (Missy), Joe and many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his father, James Clearwater; mother, Jean Leo; step-father Pete Leo; and his sister, Lana Courtney.
A visitation will be held on Thursday June 13th, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the Iles Grandview Park Chapel in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3-7 p.m on June 23rd at the Amvets Post 2 in Des Moines with a time of sharing beginning at 4:30.
