Edward "Eddie" Francis Conner peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 4th, 2025, in the comfort of his mountain in Wirtz, VA, with his cat, Remi, comforting him.

Eddie was born in Roanoke, VA, on October 3rd,1930, and grew up during the Great Depression. He lived through many historical events during his lifetime, which he eagerly shared with others. Eddie proudly served in the U.S. Army, while attending Fishburne Military School, he played basketball, baseball, and ran track. He was the last surviving member of the 1950s Fast Pitch State Softball Championship from Town and Country 66 of Roanoke.

He enjoyed bird watching, UVA Football, candy, Dr. Pepper, napping outside on his porch, watching Westerns, making bird sounds, and building fireworks. Eddie will be remembered for his practical jokes, storytelling, singing, love of his country, and his love for the animals that he cared for both outside and inside his home. Eddie enjoyed sharing Rose's passion for restoring and collecting dolls and antiques. Together traveling to many doll shows throughout the East Coast. Eddie was strong-willed, but mostly strong. Eddie's desire was to remain in his home until the very end, as it was his happy place. He was able to do this due to the support of his family, neighbors, and friends.

Eddie is preceded in death by the love of his life, Rose Lester. He also wished to include that he is preceded in death by his dogs Buster, Dusty, and his cats Miss Mew and Lucy Lou. Eddie is survived by his niece Vicky Charpentier, nephew Floyd "Buzzy" Ware (Sandra), and his neighborhood friends. Eddie will also be remembered by all those who provided him care, including the members of his Legacy Hospice team, who will sincerely miss him.

Special thanks to Valley Funeral Home, who honorably completed Eddie's final arrangement, and Legacy Hospice, who provided Eddie with hospice services in his home. His memorial services will be privately held on Eddie's property in the beautiful mountains of Wirtz, VA, per his request. The service will be led by Legacy Hospice Chaplain Timothy Martin.

In memory, please scatter birdseed at your home to remember him.

Eddie Conner was my daddy's (Albert Wheby) best friend since they were so young. Eddie and my daddy went to get me a puppy when I was just about 8 years old and now, I'm 54 and they were best friends' way before i was born. They came home with me a beautiful Miniature collie, I named him Tiger. Me and Tiger grew up together. When my daddy got sick, Eddie came EVERY DAY and would sit with him. They were the best of friends and always stood by one another. Eddie was like a second father to me. I remember the stories he would tell of my father and him through the years. This breaks my heart into so many pieces that he is gone but I find comfort knowing he is again with my daddy in heaven, and they are looking down on us. Eddie and I would talk about our love for animals, I remember one day he came to visit my dad, and he brought his little puppy over for me to play with. It's funny how all of the good memories never leave you no matter how young you were. I love you Eddie and I will always miss you. You were a wonderful person and to the people you loved, you stood by them through anything.
