Edward Thomas Decker, 66 of Ho Ho Kus, NJ passed away on December 12, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.
Edward was born on April 11, 1958 to Joseph and Flora Tapiro Decker. He grew up in River Edge, and attended Saint Peter The Apostle school, and subsequently graduated from River Dell High School in 1976. Upon graduation, Edward attended the University of North Texas to study Music. He ultimately ended up moving back to NJ and completed a BS degree in business from Fairleigh Dickenson University.
While still in school, Edward purchased Musically Yours, a small music teaching studio in Maywood NJ. Edward spent the rest of his life growing and improving upon Musically Yours, changing locations several times, and remaining in Hackensack for the past twenty three years, where it continues to thrive.
In 1991 Edward married his wife Linda (Saldutti), and together they went on to have two children, Madeleine and Chloe.
One of the greatest joys of Edward's life has been playing the 7 string guitar with Tony DeSare since 2008. He traveled the world, and had the opportunity to perform with some of the greatest musicians and orchestras of our time.
Edward was very active in the redevelopment efforts for the City of Hackensack. For the past two years, he served as Chairman for the Main Street Business Alliance.
Edward enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Another great pleasure was playing tennis and paddle at The Indian Trail Club with his many friends, especially the "core four".
Edward was predeceased by his father Joseph C. Decker. He is survived by his mother Flora, brothers James and Joseph, as well has his wife Linda, their two daughters Madeleine and Chloe and his granddaughter Francesca.
Edward was truly a special human being and will be sorely missed by all who had the great pleasure of knowing him. He lived life to the fullest, and although he is gone he will live in our hearts forever.

I met Ed at the Wyckoff YMCA. We would talk and shoot the breeze, as the saying goes, so I learned from him that he played the guitar. No, wait a minute. He played the 7-string guitar (what ever that was, but it sounded difficult. Well he once told me where he would be performing and I went to see him but I couldn't get in. I was looking at him through the window as I stood outside. The next time I saw him I told him of my unfortunate luck of not being able to get in but I described the venue so well he knew that I had made an attempt and he seemed quite touched by the fact. So, we always chatted each other up, smiles, laughed. He was such a a gentleman. The kind you wish there were more of.

My deepest condolences to the family. I just found out and can't believe this news. I knew Mr. Decker for 18 years while working for the City of Hackensack. Always kind, always respectful, a true loss to all that knew him. Rest in peace Mr. Decker.
