The Reverend Edward Joseph Fahey, Jr. passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024. He was born in Neptune, New Jersey, on July 20, 1961, a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Muro) Fahey. He received his early education at Avon Grammar School, Avon, New Jersey, and at Neptune High School, Neptune, New Jersey. He graduated from Bloomsburg University with a bachelor's degree in business administration in August 1983.
From the summers of 1982 through 1987, he was a beach lifeguard in his hometown of Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey, and he later became Captain of the Beach Lifeguards at the Headquarters of the United States Lifesaving Association. He graduated from Saint Mary Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland in May 1988, with a bachelor's degree of Sacred Theology and a master's degree of Divinity. During his time at Saint Mary Seminary and University from September of 1983 until May 1988, he volunteered for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the United Way and Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.
He was ordained a transitional deacon at Saint Mary Seminary Chapel on April 20, 1988, by Bishop William Newman. He was assigned as a transitional deacon at Saint Joseph Parish in Toms River, New Jersey from May 1988 until May 1989 whereupon he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Trenton at Saint Mary of the Assumption Cathedral on May 20, 1989, by Bishop John C. Reiss. He was first assigned as associate pastor to Saint Anthony Church, Trenton, New Jersey. In 1992, he was transferred as associate pastor to Saint Veronica Church, Howell, New Jersey.
From 1996 to 2000 he was associate pastor to Saint Elizabeth Church,
Wilmington, Delaware. He was assigned as an associate pastor of Saint Luke–Saint Andrew–Saint John Neumann Parish in Ocean City, Maryland from June 2000 until 2007, where he established an annual parish food drive for Joseph House in Salisbury, Maryland. He was incardinated into the Diocese of Wilmington in January 2003. He was assigned as associate pastor of Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Hockessin, Delaware from June 2007 until June 2009. In recent years, he was an assistant chaplain of Health Care Facilities for the Diocese of Wilmington, visiting nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Northern New Castle County while assisting at neighboring parishes and residing at Saint Helena Parish in Bellefonte,
Wilmington, Delaware.
He was chaplain of four Knights of Columbus Councils, and he has been most publicly active in the Pro-Life Movement of protecting human life from the moment of conception until natural death.
The visitation for Father Fahey will be held at St. Helena Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Bellefonte on Friday, October 4 from 10:30 - 11:15AM. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Bishop William Koenig, will be offered at 11:30AM, immediately followed by committal services at All Saints Cemetery.
