Edward T. Glacken, Sr., known affectionately as Ed to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at his home in Wildwood Crest, NJ. Born on December 2, 1960, in Philadelphia, PA, Ed was a man whose warmth and humor brought light into the lives of those around him.
Ed was the beloved son of Barbara (Morgan) and the late John "Scoopy" Glacken. He was a loving father to Shannon Killelea (Christopher), Gabrielle Cotter (Michael), and the late Edward Glacken, Jr. Adored Pop Pop of Ella and Alana Killelea. Loving brother of Jackie "Scoop", Barbara (Bob Raspa), William "Buddy", Charlene, Timothy, and Thomas (Marie). Ed's extended family was vast, including many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a circle of friends who valued his presence in their lives.
A proud graduate of Roman Catholic High School, Ed carried the values of his education throughout his life. He had a varied career, including positions at AT&T, Rittenhouse Bookstore, the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, and the United States Post Office. Ed's professional life was marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to service, qualities that endeared him to colleagues and customers alike.
Ed was a man who took great pride in his Irish-Catholic heritage, a testament to his upbringing in Schuylkill, Philadelphia. His passions were many, but perhaps none so pronounced as his love for videotaping family holidays and parties. These recordings stand as a testament to his dedication to preserving cherished moments for future generations to enjoy.
A sports enthusiast through and through, he was an ardent supporter of Penn State football, and Philadelphia's beloved Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and 76ers. His enthusiasm for his teams was infectious, and many will remember him as the life of the game-day party, always ready to celebrate a win or commiserate over a loss.
Ed's personality was one of humor and kindness. He was always quick with a joke, ready to share a laugh or a smile. His thoughtful nature was evident in the way he never forgot a birthday, always making sure his loved ones felt special and remembered. Ed's friendliness was universal; he made connections with people from all walks of life and maintained those bonds with genuine care and interest.
In the hearts and memories of those who knew him, Ed will be remembered as a man who lived life fully, with a quick wit and a generous heart. He was a guiding light in his family, a steadfast friend, and a man who brought joy and laughter to every occasion.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 12, 2024 at St. Gabriel's Church, 2917 Dickinson Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146 where friends may call 9:30 – 10:45 A.M. At the Church. Interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA 19050.
