It is with loving memory we remember Harry J. McKenna, born on December 15, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA. Harry was a beacon of joy and warmth to those around him, his twinkling eyes always ready to share a funny saying, and his heart always open to offer love and compassion. His dedication to his family, faith, and work was a testament to the extraordinary character that Harry was. He truly embodied the essence of a loving son, husband, dedicated father, and doting grandfather.
Harry, a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, was known for his unique take on humor, often referring to it as slapstick comedy. His saying, "You will not get this meal standing on a corner," brought chuckles to family dinners and gatherings, a testament to his infectious humor. He was a graduate of St. Columba Grade School and Roman Catholic High School Class of 1955. Harry was a US Army Veteran who served in Germany for over 2 years. Following his service, he worked as a Foreman for Morris Wheeler Steel Company and US Steel before his retirement, bringing the same dedication and compassion to his work as he did to every aspect of his life. His hobbies included going to the casino and coming up with his famous funny sayings. However, what mattered most to him was his family and his faith. A devoted Catholic, Harry's faith guided him through life and helped shape him into the man we all knew and cherished. Harry was active an active member of St. Jerome Senior group, he was a director and worked with St. Jerome travel group, running their monthly Casino trips.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Kathryn "Kathy" McKenna, his son Robert McKenna (Connie), grandchildren Mark (Emily), Daniel, Kevin, and Kathryn "Katie" McKenna. He is also survived by his beloved great-grandson, Matthew James. He will also be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews and friends. Harry was preceded in death by his son Stephen McKenna, his daughter-in-law Cindy McKenna, his father Henry McKenna, his mother Mary McKenna (nee Doherty) and his sister Mary Napieralski.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet his family on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 9:15 am to 10:15 am at St. Jerome's Church, 8100 Colfax Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
