Dennis P. McGinty, age 77, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
He was born in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 11, 1948 and grew up in the Fairmount section of the city. He was the youngest of nine. He graduated from Roman Catholic High School, Class of 1966.
Shortly after graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart Award. He was very proud of being a Marine. His time in Vietnam shaped the course of his life through the end.
He married Theresa on September 28, 1968. After being married, they lived in Roxborough for over 40 years. He was an active member of St. Josaphat's parish. He was part of "The Dirty Dozen", who donated their time to renovate the school. He made treasured, lifelong friends there. He also donated his time at the 21st Ward Little League. He not only coached, he spent hours helping to maintain the fields. He was a board member for a few years, even Vice President of the league. He did the same for the Senior League. He impacted a lot of young lives during his years there. He also made many good friends there.
He was a proud Roman Catholic graduate and he helped coach both football and baseball. He is remembered by many for his coaching and life skills.
Dennis was a proud man who helped anyone in need. He loved most sports, especially baseball and football. In his younger years he loved hunting, darts, shooting pool, and camping. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling, walking on the boardwalk, and his lawn and gardening.
He was a Union Plumber by trade and worked out of the Local 690 in Philadelphia. His skill set did not end at plumbing though. He was a man of many skills. He was constantly doing projects and fixing things around his house as well as helping his family and friends.
He retired to Egg Harbor Township, NJ about 15 years ago. After his wife, Theresa, passed 5 years ago, he moved to a 55+ Community in Mays Landing, NJ. He was well liked in the Community and made very good friends there.
Dennis is survived by his daughter, Tracey (Stephen), and sons, Patrick (Angela) and Stephen (Brenda). In addition, he is survived by his brothers, Walt (the late Lorraine) and Michael(Margaret), sister-in-law Katherine (wife of the late Herbert).
He was the adored grandfather "Pop" of Samantha, Kyle, Caitlyn, Brendan, Megan, Ryan, Aaron, and Nicholas, great-grandfather of Avery, Emberly, and Addalyn and Uncle-Pop to Lauren. He is survived additionally by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dennis was preceded in death by Theresa, his wife of 52 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine McGinty, his sisters Theresa (Joseph) and Patricia (William), his brothers, Bernard (Dorothy), Francis (Dolores), John (Patricia), and Herbert, his sister-in-law, Lorraine (wife of Walter) and his grandson, Dennis, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier in Fairmount in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025. There will be a viewing time preceding Mass from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Following Mass there will be a procession to Westminster Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, PA where Dennis will be placed in his final resting place. All are welcome to attend. There will be a celebration of his life afterwards at Parkway Memorial VFW Post 7650, North 24th Street,
Philadelphia, PA.
