Edward Peter Glebus

Edward Peter Glebus, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, with his devoted wife, Elaine, by his side.  Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on April 7, 1945, he was the son of the late Gabriel W. Glebus, Jr. and Helena Ann (Hobitz) Glebus. Ed was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1964.   Following his graduation, Ed enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War.   He was stationed in Europe with the 8th Infantry Division, earning the rank of Corporal, before his honorable discharge in 1968.  Upon his return home to Walpole, Ed enrolled in Bentley College's Accounting Program, where he was inducted into Beta Tau Alpha honor fraternity, before earning his bachelor's degree in 1973.

 

Ed was introduced to his wife, Elaine Allen Field, by mutual friends at a dinner party one evening.   Two weeks later, after mustering some courage, Ed called Elaine to ask her out on a date.  The rest, as they say, is history.  Ed and Elaine were married on July 1, 1972, at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Walpole.  The couple initially made their home in Foxborough, Massachusetts and Ed began his career with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, working as an internal auditor.   In 1976, Ed was inducted into Sigma Phi Epsilon, joining a network of other men throughout the country in a National Honor Society, promoting Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.  After getting his professional life established, Ed and Elaine settled into their home in Sharon, Massachusetts, taking advantage of the many golf courses in the area. 

 

Ed remained with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for his entire career, spanning thirty-seven years.  He worked in various capacities, including serving as the Integrated Accounting Systems Liaison and as a loaned executive to the United Way of Massachusetts, but he always returned to his role of internal auditor.  In the late 1980s, Ed returned to his education, taking courses at Harvard University, earning a Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Administration and Management.  He also joined Toastmasters International in 1988, bettering his public speaking ability and earning his certification in 1990.  For all of his hard work with the Federal Reserve Bank, Ed was presented the President's Award three times over the course of his career.

 

Throughout his life, Ed loved being on a golf course, spending the day with his wife, Elaine or his three closest friends.  He played many courses in the Sharon area, taking note of his favorites. His love for the game led him to co-chair the Bank Administration Golf Tournament in 1987 and more recently to become a member of the Sharon Country Club.  While he loved being on the links, Ed truly loved boarding a plane with his wife to explore a new destination, whether domestic or international.  The couple traveled throughout the United States extensively and looked forward to vacations to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.  Back at home, Ed was a dedicated member of the Epiphany Parish in Walpole.  He regularly helped organize and facilitate the annual Village Fair at the Church and loved seeing the faces of excited children as they came to pick pumpkins at the church in the fall.

Loving brother of Barbara Lorusso and her husband, Tony, of Walpole, the late Lillian Pataskas and her late husband, Victor, the late Dorothy Morgan and her surviving husband, Joe, of Walpole, and the late Richard Glebus and his surviving wife, Maria, of Shrewsbury and brother-in-law of Linda Mattox and her husband, Jeremy, of Seattle, Washington.

Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

 

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Ed's Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 62 Front Street, Walpole.  Interment will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
