Edward T. Grinstead

GRINSTEAD, Edward T. "Tom," peacefully passed away at the age of 90 in his hometown of Richmond, Va., in the morning hours of March 8, 2009. Born on October 26, 1918 to Susie Grinstead Frank and Archer Lafayette Grinstead, he is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Britt, Katherine Faria and Emma Gail Taylor; sisters, Margaret Lewis and Virginia Bishop; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. A 22-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, Tom served on the battleship USS New York in the Pacific Theater during World War II and on several warships during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve. He served the Richmond Sheriff's Office as a bailiff for over 20 years. He left to join his beloved wife, Thelma Louise Kirby Grinstead of 23 years, within hours of her funeral service. His presence will be dearly missed by not only his loving family, but also by the staff and patrons of numerous ice cream parlors and diners across our great state of Virginia. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bliley's -Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., where services will be held 12 noon Wednesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
