Edward J. Hinko, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023.
Edward was born to Dr. Edward and Norma Hinko on June 19,1938 in Ohio. He was a 1956 graduate of Campion High School in Wisconsin where he excelled academically and as a star athlete in basketball and track and field. After high school, Edward attended John Carroll University in Ohio, earning his B.S. in Social Science and was a member of the ROTC program. He then joined the United States Army and was stationed in France and Germany. Following his discharge from the Army, Edward attended Boston College Graduate School, where he received his Master's degree and met the love of his life, Mary along with her large Irish family. He quickly became one of their own. Edward worked his entire career as a guidance counselor at Southeastern Regional High School and remained close friends with many coworkers his entire life.
In retirement, he enjoyed working at the Easton Country Club, where he hosted the Festy-Nora family golf tournament. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Thomas Aquinas church for over 50 years. He participated as a church lector and attended Mass weekly. Edward was an avid golfer, golfing at Cape Cod country club every Saturday, in leagues, tournaments and his cherished annual guys "Speedo" golf weekend away where they recently inducted him into their hall of fame. Edward loved the ocean and enjoyed quahogging, boating, and spending his summers in Mattapoisett. Edward's main passion in life was his family, attending countless sporting events or activities for his children and grandchildren where he proudly cheered them on. He will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Beloved husband of 57 years to Mary A. Hinko (Roach). Loving father of Philip Hinko of Bridgewater, Edward Hinko and his wife Gia of Middleboro, Anne Peddie and her husband Michael of Middleboro, Mary Klein of Bridgewater and David Klein of Attleboro. Devoted Grandpa of Anthony, Nicholas, Peter, Aileen, Lila, and Sean. Adored great Grandpa of Hallie. Caring bother of Paul Hinko of Ohio and Philip Hinko of New Mexico. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday, March 21, from 4-7 PM at the Chapman Funeral Home, Bridgewater. I have vivid memories of Ed as a track and field star at John Carroll. Participating in as many as six events, he single-handedly won many a track meet for the Blue Streaks. I was a freshman handling Sports Information duties of calling in sports results to local papers so I travelled with the team. Ed was a senior and one of the friendliest guys on the team. May he rest in peace.
