Edward Leroy Hopping, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by immediate family. He was born on October 29, 1938, in Cambridge City, Indiana, where he was also raised.
He was preceded in death by his father Leroy Edward Hopping, mother Mary Alice (Richardson) Hopping and sister Kay Ellen Jones.
Edward was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School in Cambridge City, where he met his high school sweetheart, Rayanna Mohler. The two shared 66 devoted years of marriage, a lifetime marked by love, faith, and family.
Edward proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Following his service, he and Rayanna made their home in Knightstown, Indiana in 1969. They have been faithful members of the Knightstown United Methodist Church for 56 years, where Edward was known for his steady presence and quiet devotion, while also being a youth leader and active committee member for many of those years.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Rayanna Jane (Mohler) Hopping; his children, Lesa RayJane Back and husband Jeff of Knightstown, Troy Edward Hopping of Greenfield, and Darin Lee Hopping and wife Alyce of Lexington, North Carolina. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to five grandchildren and a joyful great-grandfather to fourteen great-grandchildren.
Edward will be remembered for his deep love and loyalty to his family, commitment to faith, pride in service, and the legacy of kindness and strength he leaves behind. His life was one of quiet dedication, and his memory will live on in the many lives he touched.
There will be no public services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Knightstown United Methodist Church, 27 S. Jefferson Street, Knightstown, IN 46148.
