Edward R. Kalish, 90, of Cary, North Carolina passed away on July 20, 2024. Ed
had quite a life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Ed was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1934. His love of the outdoors started when he
was young with regular fishing and hunting trips to Canada and throughout Ohio
and Pennsylvania. He attended John Adams High School in Cleveland and later
graduated from Kent State University. Ed joined the Army and was stationed in
Japan and the Philippines for a period of time.
Ed found the love of his life Nancy Ebbert and they were married in 1962.
They settled down in Mentor, Ohio and raised their 3 children. In 1983, while
working for Freightliner Trucking Co. he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and
8 years later was transferred to Portland, Oregon. In 1996, he retired and
returned to North Carolina where he built a house in Garner, North Carolina.
During his retirement years, Ed stayed busy continuing his love of the outdoors.
Besides fishing and hunting, he could be found in his garden growing a variety of
different plants. Ed also loved woodworking and his creations can be found
today throughout his home and the homes of his children and grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy, their 3 children, Kathy Halula (Steve), David
Kalish (Julie Gavaghan) and Paul Kalish; 6 grandchildren – Ben Halula, Jackie
Halula, Rachel Halula, Sydney Kalish, Emily Kalish and Brooke Kalish; his brother,
Ken Kalish, his sisters, Betty Kalish and Phyllis Machen along with many nieces
and nephews. Although Ed is gone, his memory survives and we can smile at the
many memories we had with him.
A funeral mass will be celebrated August 1 at 11 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle
Catholic Church in Apex, North Carolina. Mass will be followed by a reception in
the Fellowship Hall of St. Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ed's name may be sent to the Salvation Army
at give.salvationarmyusa.org, the French Creek Valley
Conservancy at www.frenchcreekconservancy.org/donate-2/ or your favorite
charity that supports the outdoors.
