Edward F. Kycia, 63, of West Hartford, CT left this earth on Friday April 26, 2024 at Hartford Hospital due to complications after suffering a heart attack. Ed was the loving husband of Mary and the father of Maggie Kycia of Wellington, New Zealand and Danny Kycia of NY, New York, who were his whole world. Ed and Mary raised their family in West Hartford, CT. Ed was born on October 8, 1960 with his identical twin brother, John, at St Francis Hospital in Hartford. Ed grew up in Old Wethersfield, CT. He graduated from Xavier High School in Middletown, CT where he excelled at baseball. He went on to graduate from Assumption University in Worcester, MA, where he also played baseball. After graduation Ed began a career at Allstate Insurance Company in the Operations Department, then moving to Human Resources before opening his own insurance business, the Edward F. Kycia Agency.
Ed was a sports guy. He enjoyed baseball, golf and boating. He loved any sport his children were playing. He was a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins, the NY Giants and UCONN Men and Woman's basketball. Ed was service oriented, he was involved in organizing and leading many community activities whether at Allstate or in his personal life. A few highlights are his work with the New England Whalers on Hockey Night in Hartford and the American Heart Association. He was a proud member of the parish council at St Peter Claver Church in West Hartford and the board of the Niantic Bay Yacht Club.
Ed was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1993 and although that was his battle for over 30 years, he never let it define him.
Besides his wife and children, Ed is survived by his mother Helen Kycia of Old Wethersfield, CT, his twin brother, John Kycia and his wife Diana of Niantic, CT and his sister Mary Ann Bello and her husband Charlie of Alpharetta, Georgia. He is also survived by many adoring in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Ed was predeceased by his father Edward A. Kycia.
We want to thank the West Hartford paramedics, the staff at Hartford Hospital Cardiac ICU, the neurology team and the staff on Bliss 10 East for the loving and compassionate care they showed Ed and our family.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday May 3, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT. The funeral mass will be Saturday May 4, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant St, West Hartford, CT. If you wish to make a memorial donation in Ed's name please donate to the neparkinsonsride.org. Ed and his family have been actively involved with this fundraiser which supports The Michael J. Fox Foundation. If you wish to leave an online expression of sympathy, please do so at www.molloyfuneralhome.com.
Rest in peace Ed. We will see you at the "endless blue horizon, neath the crimson setting sun".

I have known Mary since college. She was my R.A. I then worked with her after college at Aetna. We trained for and ran our first marathon together. Then I went to law school. For one summer, I worked at Aetna, again. Mary and Ed were married by then and living in West Hartford. They were so gracious! I was their house guest all summer long. Ed didn't really know me but welcomed me and treated me like family. For the whole summer! I have never forgotten his hospitality and generosity. Thank you, again, Ed. You were a kind soul and you have earned your spot in heaven. Rest in peace my friend.

Ed always had a kind word and a smile for everyone on our campus at Assumption. While many years have passed since our time there, the women of Townhouse 8 have great memories of Ed, John and the guys of Townhouse 7. Our heartfelt condolences to your whole family. Ruth Gorman Haines
