Edward Wei Chi Liu, known as "Ed" or "Dr. Liu" passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore UMC Hospital.

Ed was a wonderful father, devoted husband, dedicated to his mother, close with his brothers, Victor and Roger, beloved by his in-laws, and held in high esteem and respect at his workplace for his devotion to excellent and compassionate patient care, availability to colleagues, and dedication to the hospital.

He was born in Rego Park, Queens, NY, and grew-up in Parsippany, NJ for the most part until he attended University of California, Berkely on scholarship. He was accepted to Penn State for medical school, and Mount Sinai (NYC) for Fellowship in Infectious Diseases. He received Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and was getting MBA from the Gies College, the business school of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Ed's first and only job out of Fellowship was at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he dedicated 21 years of his life and loved the place and the people in it, including his patients, doctors, nurses, secretaries, and other staff. He became the Section Chief of Infectious Diseases and served as the Chair of the Infection Diseases Committee. Ed was a consummate professional, and a warm, caring, humorous person.

On June 8, 2013, Ed and Mindy got married at The Lighthouse in Pier 61 (NYC). To his wife and child, Ed was known for his sharp intellect, endless knowledge of a variety of things, hysterical, always in pursuit of personal excellence, with a down-to-earth personality and endless loving patience. He was a deeply caring person who was always available to answer any questions from colleagues regardless if he was on service and at any time of day or night. He was a great father to his son, Nolan Liu, always gentle and patient. To his wife of 11 years, Mindy Kim-Liu, he was a loving, hilarious, selfless, devoted husband.

Ed's favorite genre was Sci-Fi films or books. He was an avid reader and collector of comic books. He was extremely talented as a handyman around the house. Later on, he took on woodworking as a hobby and built a dozen furnitures, including our dining table, patio sofas and table set, dresser, desks, and aquarium stand.

He was a great man, possessed boundless patience and understanding, who held himself to excellence while helping so many, was kind and humble. While he is no longer with us physically, his legacy will live on through those who had the priviledge to know him.

He is survived by his wife Mindy Kim-Liu, son Nolan Liu, mother Woach-Jen Shen, brothers Victor Liu and Roger Liu, and his nephew Aidan Liu, and three nieces, Caitlyn Liu, Hannah Liu, and Melissa Liu.
