Edward Mackell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home on Feb. 18, 2026.
Edward V Mackell
7/4/31 - 2/16/26
Ed Mackell was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Henry and Loretta Mackell on July 4th, 1931, and on February 16th, 2026, passed in his sleep after a full life of giving and laughter and loving and teaching.
Ed Mackell lived a Big life. He married the love of his life Mary Lou Rogers on July 17th 1954, and over 66 years together raised 7 children and buried 2.
He was an athlete, he was a lifeguard, he was a VERY proud Marine, "OORAH". He was an educator, he was a handy man and a tinkerer and he had a creative streak a mile long. He enjoyed the outdoors and his time at The Lake in Brown County. There is where he taught his children to appreciate nature, to be curious, to explore. Here is where he excelled… he was a Great Dad.
His professional life began in Tool & Die and progressed to teaching Tool & Die at Ivy Tech, and happily retired from there. He enjoyed his retirement. He and Mary Lou took to traveling and had a quest to visit every state. They almost made it too…. Only Hawaii did they miss. He was hired on to be one of the guys driving the cars at the car auctions. He loved driving all the different cars….and being with his buddies and all their terrible jokes.

He was very involved with the Knights of Columbus and at the pinnacle of his involvement, had the honor of serving as Grand Knight.
Ed & Mary Lou were long time parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes in Irvington and a staple, & known to all, as they were at every game… every sport….. cheering on…..someone.
He was kind and warm and funny and he loved his family and his life. "No Regrets". We will miss him terribly, but are comforted to think of him back with Mary Lou, and Danny, and Vincent.
Ed is survived by his Children, Frank ( Angie ) Jim (Gorgann) Bernie, Ellen (Joe) Janet ( John ) Jeanne, and 9 Grandchildren, Samantha, Steve ( Cassie ) Stephanie, Tavish, Calvin, Reid ( Courtney ) Lauren (Cameron ) Allison ( Dan ) Vincent , and Great Grandchildren ( Rebecca, Sam, Luke, Jack, Harper, Sophia, Evelyn, Nora, Rowan and Rory. )
Pre Deceased Children Vincent Mackell and Danny Mackell.
An d Pre Deceased Siblings John Mackelll ( Rosem ary) and Marie Mackell Dupuis ( Larry ).
