Mr. Edward Mathis, Jr., was born on December 11, 1953, to Edward Mathis, Sr., and Mary Helen Chapman in Barnesville, Georgia. "Doo Bug" as he was affectionately called by his friends and family received his formal education in the Griffin Spalding County School System in Griffin, Georgia.

Edward accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was united with Pine Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Edward Mathis, Jr., met Ms. Jonie Ellis and was united in holy matrimony in July 1974 in Griffin, Georgia.

In his leisure time he enjoyed watching football, watching wrestling, watching Judge Judy, and most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, Mr. Edward Mathis, Jr., name was called, and he answered and was set free from all sickness and pain. Rest now in peace and comfort, your journey has ended, battle fought, and victory won. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Helen Chapman, and Edward (Catherine) Mathis, Sr., and his siblings, Jackie O'Neil and Jeffery Wyatt.

Mr. Edward Mathis, Jr., leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jonie Mathis; sister Leslie (Dennis) Anderson; uncle, Ernest Fuller, brothers-in-law, Charles Otis Redding, and Steve Ellis; cousins, Angela Watts, and Shirley Chapman; special friend, Sheila Johnson; special nieces, Kaitlyn Morgan, and Chloee Johnson, and three special young men, Demarjae Guider, Hayden Davis, and Seven Morgan. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.

Visitation for Mr. Mathis will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Burden's Funeral Home. Service will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Burden' s Funeral Home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the sevvice hour. Interment will follow in Westwood Garden. Bishop J. D. Means is the Eulogist.
