Edward "Ed" Gray Minge passed away on August 17, 2025 with family and friends by his side.
Ed and his twin brother Jack were born in Jacksonville, Florida to Mary Gray and John H. Minge Jr. After high school, Ed attended Oxford College, earned his Bachelor of Science from Georgia State University in 1972, and then went on to graduate from Emory University on June 10, 1974 with his Masters of Medical Science. He practiced as a PA in Anesthesia for over 40 years.
Ed loved his family and friends. He never met a stranger. With his quiet and unassuming manner, he was a friend to all he met and was always glad to lend a helping hand with whatever needed to be done.
Ed was a dedicated member of every community he lived in throughout his life serving in local civic groups. He was active in the Covington community in the Covington Lions Club, serving as President and Vice President, was active in all the fundraisers and events, and ran the parade for too many years to count. He was always the first one to suggest new ways to try something, or to suggest improvements to the building or grounds to make things better. He received the Lion of the Year Award and the Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest honor a Lion can get.
Ed loved the Lord and served Covington First United Methodist Church diligently, running audio and video equipment for all services for over 20 years. He could be found on the church campus helping out with everything from Change the World Day to United Methodist Men's events. He had a heart for missions and for helping others.
Ed had many talents, hobbies, and pastimes. He ran his video production company, Lights, Camera, Action for many years, capturing special moments in people's lives including weddings and graduations. One of Ed's greatest loves was the St. John's River and the ocean. He loved to fish and spent years in Jacksonville mullet fishing with his friend Norman on the St John's River. Ed was also an artisan and craftsman. He made handcrafted woodworking projects and beautifully crafted decorative gourds.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and John Minge Jr., his twin brother John "Jack" Minge III, his sister Tonita Foster, and his nephew David Foster.
Ed is survived by his spouse of 29 years, Claudia Webb Minge, son Patrick (Brooke) Minge, daughter Katie Sauls, daughter Bonnie (Lee) Taliaferro, grandsons Clayton Minge and Connor Taliaferro, granddaughters Mady Dorsey and Francie Sauls, along with many more cousins, nephews, nieces, and great nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, 10am-10:45am in the fellowship hall of Covington First United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on the front lawn with Revered Chris Shurtz, Dr. Doug Gilreath, and Dr. Jan McCoy officiating. Interment will be in the Columbarium Memorial Garden at 11am.
A private family service will be held in Jacksonville Florida on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
