Townsend – Edward F. Morse, 81, of Townsend passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
He was born in Shirley on February 11, 1943, son of the late Roland Morse, Sr. and Ethel (Leedberg) Keane and had resided in Townsend for nearly 50 years.
In his early years he and his wife Barbara worked on horse racetracks handling and grooming the racehorses while his brother Roland (Spike) was a jockey. After the racetrack he had various jobs until he found what he was made for, driving tractor trailer trucks. Over the years he worked at Horn Packaging Corporation in Ayer, Neilsen Moulding in Townsend and Black & White Trucking, Co. in Pepperell as a truck driver until eventually finding his way to EPIC Enterprises, Inc. (Pepsi) in Ayer where he retired after working there for 35 years.
He was a blue collar, hardworking, generous, funny, and kind man willing to help anyone who needed him. He was devoted to his family and loved them with all his heart and soul. He would go to the ends of the Earth for any one of them. When you met him, you liked him instantly. He was a people person, who loved to laugh and joke around with everyone he met; he often had a crowd around him due to the great stories he would tell, he was quite the character. In his later years, he became an ordained minister, which he was very proud of. He carried his card with him ready to show anyone and share his story of how it came to be.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, unplugging in front of the TV after a long day at work, working in his yard and tinkering in his basement on various projects.
He became a widower when his wife of 47 years, Barbara (Primmerman) Morse passed away in October of 2020. He leaves a son, Edward Morse, Jr. and his wife, Amanda of New Ipswich, NH, three daughters, Valerie Kaufman (Morse), and her husband Bobby of Florida, Linnea Snow and her husband, Phil of Peterborough, NH, and Diana Overton and her husband Chris of Townsend; two sisters, Barbara Hanson of Tewksbury, MA and Gloria Taro and her husband Joe of Texas; seven grandchildren, Shane LeBlanc, Christopher Overton, Jr., Matthew Overton, Tyler Snow, Benjamin Overton, Jacob Kaufman, and Addison Morse, two great-grandchildren, Aurora Overton and Christopher Overton, III and several nephews and nieces.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his brother Roland Morse, Jr., and his sister Caroline Julius.
Ed's family will receive family and friends on Thursday, May 16 from 4 to 7 PM in the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend. www.andersonfuneral.com
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 320 Nevada St #201, Newton, MA 02460

My first memory of Ed was when he came home from the hospital as an infant. I was mad because a roomer that we had was holding my baby before I got to hold him. He spent a lot of time fishing when he was little.
