Edward Theodore Moy, 65, of Richwood, Tx passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, surrounded by family.  He was born on December 28, 1958, in Eunice, LA to Edward and Eunice (Baca) Moy.  Edward is survived by his wife, Debbie (Pace), as well as his sister Sherry Moy and niece Annika Moreno; brother Gerard Moy and wife, Jean, and nephew Jarrett Moy; sister Celine Mathews and husband, Thomas; sister Jackie Moy; and sister Mary Beth Bowen and husband, Corrie, and nephews Cody and Clayton Bowen; nephews Mathew Pace, Taylor Pace, Andrew Pace, James Pace, Travis Wagner and Tyler Wagner; and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eunice Moy.  He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in West Columbia, Texas.

Ed was a family medicine doctor, having graduated from Texas A&M School of Medicine in 2010 and completing his residency at Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, Texas.   Prior to becoming a doctor, he was a EEE electrical engineer for Lockheed Martin at NASA, where he helped to develop a modern communications system for the space shuttle.  He was first and foremost a scientist at heart, always interested in how things worked and what he could make things do – from when he was a kid pouring over Popular Mechanics magazine and doing things like using a magnifying glass to catch stuff on fire, to later setting up a ham radio in his bedroom to talk to people all over the world, and to later spending his free time after his day job at NASA to volunteer in a college lab running tests to help contribute to the understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and the aging process.

Ed was a talented musician and excelled at playing the tenor saxophone and guitar and also enjoyed playing the piano.  He loved and understood music:  the scales, the pitches, the harmonies, the rhythms – how it all worked and came together to create something wonderful.  He would sometimes just sit down and start picking out a beautiful melody on the guitar, and when asked “what song is that”, the reply was usually that it was not any particular song, just something he was playing off the top of his head.  He also had a beautiful tenor / baritone singing voice.

To his family, he was the impish, wicked-smart, funny big brother and uncle, who had a lickety-split quick sense of humor and a dry delivery that would have us rolling with laughter at the same time we kicked ourselves each time we let him get one over on us.  His niece and nephews adored him for his kind heart and fun nature.  The memories are numerous – like Annika as a toddler giggling with delight as he turned her upside down and lifted her up to make her walk on the ceiling, and many, many Christmases, New Years and July 4th’s with Uncle Ed entertaining his nephews with his own special brand of firework-popping.  While some of the pranks he pulled could be called legendary, his over-whelming character was one of kindness, always ready to help when asked.  As husband to Debbie, he was her rock.  As big brother to his siblings, he set us a great example of how to live a decent, love-filled life.  His was a life well-lived.

And so this chapter of Edward’s life has come to a close.  We will miss him greatly, but we’ll cherish the wonderful memories and be comforted by the fact that his story is not over, that this is simply a transition to his glorious new life with Jesus in Heaven.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas from 5 – 7 p.m., with a rosary starting at 7 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 22, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in West Columbia. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Mathews, Corrie Bowen, Cody Bowen, Clayton Bowen, Gerard Moy, Jarrett Moy, Mike Leveridge, and George Baca.

The family would like to thank Divinity Hospice for their care of Edward during his last days, with special thanks to Lori Delgado and her wonderful nurses – your kindness will be forever appreciated.
