Obituary For Edward John Moyer
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Edward John Moyer, 65, of
Virginia Beach, VA, on June 2, 2025. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the beloved son of Charles and Doris Moyer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janet Leigh Moyer, and their sons: Jeffrey O'Brian Moyer and his wife, Madalyn, along with his grandson, Clay Edward, of Montgomery, OH; Michael John Moyer of
Virginia Beach, VA; and Corey Edward Moyer of Shawnee, KS. Also surviving are his devoted mother, Doris Marie Moyer, and his brothers: Chuck Moyer Jr. (Susan), Rick Moyer (Liz), and David Moyer (Linda). He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Norman Moyer Sr.
Ed graduated from Princess Anne High School, Class of 1977, and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University in 1981. A passionate golfer, he was a founding member of Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, KS, and for the past six years, he and Janet were members of Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach. In 2024 alone, Ed proudly completed 140 rounds of golf. Some rounds were great-and on those days, "he was a better man, husband, and father." Even on tough rounds, the joy of the game remained, because he was playing with family and lifelong friends.
Ed built a distinguished 40-year career with American Multi-Cinema (AMC), beginning in 1979 as a part-time manager at Circle 4 in Norfolk, VA. He was named General Manager of the Year in 1986 while leading the Lynnhaven 8 theatre in Virginia Beach. His career took him and his family to Florida, Kansas, New Jersey, and ultimately back to Kansas, as he assumed greater leadership roles. In August 2019, Ed retired as Senior Vice President of Operations, and in 2020, he was honored with AMC's Legend Award in recognition of his outstanding dedication and service.
Ed was a bright, shining light-full of life, love, wisdom, and laughter. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by his kind and generous spirit. His strength leaves an enduring imprint on his family, his friends, and the incredible medical team who cared for him. To his sons, he is their hero, coach, caddie, and compass to their true north. To his grandson, Clay Edward, PopPop will smile and walk beside you always. To his wife, Janet, he was, is, and will forever be "STB"-Simply the Best.
We thank God for bringing two co-workers together at The Water Flume in 1979. They began as friends, where Ed listened more and talked less. They ended that summer dancing to "Last Dance" at Peabody's and began a lifetime of love. Their heavenly reunion will surely be filled with endless joy.
A celebration of life for Ed will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the Princess Anne Country Club, 3800 Pacific Avenue,
Virginia Beach, VA, with a reception to follow. Ed requested that friends and family wear golf attire or their summer's best.
In lieu of flowers, Ed asked that Diana Taper, Oncology PharmD at AdventHealth Cancer Institute, name a research foundation that brings hope to those fighting cancer. Diana has been by the family's side since Ed's 2019 pancreatic cancer diagnosis, offering compassionate care and guidance to help make informed decisions. We are grateful to now call her a friend. In Ed's honor, please consider donating to the
