Edward Nass Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Inc. - Morehead on Apr. 25, 2025.
Edward George Nass, son of the late Adele Anne Gowland, was born August 29, 1935, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at The Willows at Citation in Lexington, Kentucky, where he relocated in 2024 after 60 years as a resident of Morehead, Kentucky.
Ed was a lifelong learner, having earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education from Northwestern State University in Louisiana. Between degrees, he enlisted in the military, completing basic training and serving as a reservist in the U.S. Army. After graduate school, he continued to explore his interest in photography and the graphic arts, eventually landing a role as instructor at Morehead State University before his eventual appointment to Associate Professor. He remained a dedicated member of the faculty at MSU until he retired in 2002, maintaining emeritus status for a few more years.
During his tenure at MSU, he served as faculty advisor to Sigma Tau Epsilon professional fraternity and Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He is lovingly remembered by many students as being dedicated to their education, keeping the graphic arts lab open late into the evenings to ensure they had time and support to complete their class projects. He was equally committed to MSU athletics, volunteering as defensive statistician for the MSU Eagles football team for over 50 years, and providing financial support to smaller teams.
He was committed to his children and the rest of Morehead's youth, coaching T-ball and soccer, serving as Cub Scout den leader and Boy Scout Assistant Scoutmaster, and judging the regional science fair at MSU. He also loved his canine children, Spencer and Sybil, and was a frequent contributor to STAR (Saving the Animals of Rowan).
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, as well as traveling, spending many family summer vacations at Opryland, Mammoth Caves, and in Louisiana and Mississippi. In the last few years, he was able to visit his children in California, cruise the Caribbean, and take extended train trips across the U.S. and Canada.
He is survived by his two loving children, Scott Edward Nass of Palm Springs, California, and Kelly Dawn Nass of Toluca Lake, California.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2025, with a celebration of Ed's life following at 3 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Brandon Gilvin, Sr. Minister, Central Christian Church, Lexington, Kentucky, officiating.
Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that shows of sympathy be made in the form of donations in honor of Ed to STAR at www.stardogrescue.org/
