Edward Mitchell Nowakowski Sr

Edward M. Nowakowski Sr. passed away on Thursday, November 6th at the age of 85, surrounded by family members and friends close to Ed. Ed was born on June 25th, 1940, to Louie and Muriel Nowakowski in Gary, Indiana. Ed was the 4th of 5 children in the family. Ed grew up enjoying participating in sports, dancing, and listening to music. All of these passions followed Ed throughout his life, as a participant into his fifties, and as a spectator after that. From boxing to football and slow pitch softball, Ed was a player, coach, and fan to the end. Ed's single best decision occurred while serving in the United States Army. It was during that period, stationed in Arkansas, where he met, courted and eventually married Mona (Bonnie) Smith. Ed and Bonnie were blessed to have John (Pat), Wes, Dawn and Ed (Dorothy) as children to make for a loving and sometimes chaotic family. Ed was also blessed with 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, with more on the way! Ed is preceded by his wife Bonnie, son Wesley, father Louie, Mother Muriel, brothers Richard and David, and sister Loretta in death. Ed is survived by sister Irene Hert, sons John and Ed Nowakowski, daughter Dawn Delefuenta along with the grandchildren.
