CONGERS – Edward T. Qualter, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 5, 2022, after a gallant battle with cancer. Edward is survived by his three children, Kathleen of Yonkers, Edward of Congers and James and daughter in law Jennifer of Valley Cottage. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Francis Qualter of NYC, and six grandchildren (Robert and Ryan Nastro of Yonkers, Kerry and Thomas Qualter of Congers, and Sean and Aidan Qualter of Valley Cottage.) Close family members included Evelyn O'Doherty, Alec and Paige O'Doherty and their daughter Dylan.
Edward was born January 11, 1940, in New York, New York, the son of Edward and Margaret Qualter. He served his country in the United States Navy, mostly on Destroyers, finishing his service on the USS Hamner. He would often pride himself for being the first man on his ship to operate the 5-inch gun. Shortly after his service, Edward took a job with Con Edison, which turned into his life's work rising from humble beginnings to Managing Foreman before retiring.
Edward retired to East Hampton New York where he enjoyed playing golf, roaming the "Great Out Doors", eating veal scaloppini, and sharing his love of his Irish heritage. He was also known for his photography skills at family events and always made time to assist others in their time of need. Edward was nothing short of a great chef and enjoyed cooking for his family. Edward "Johnny Boy" Qualter spent most of his free time involved in his community, providing guidance, wisdom, and laughter to countless souls. He was truly a legend to so many.
A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, 728 W Nyack Rd, West Nyack NY from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-9pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Anthony's Shrine church in Nanuet on Thursday November 10 at 10am. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
