Edward Charles Schlatter V, 81, of Brick, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Edward lived his life with curiosity, humor, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of family and nature.
He was born to Edward Schlatter and Lillian Schlatter (ne Creamer) on February 8, 1944. Ed was a graduate of Bergen County Technical High School where he developed his skills in mechanical tooling. A long-time resident of Dumont, New Jersey, Ed retired in 2006 to Brick, New Jersey, after a long and successful career in Industrial Sales management and the Air Compressor industries. He enjoyed spending time with his family camping, fishing, metal detecting to find buried treasures, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and going to car shows and the beach.
Ed is survived by his wife Diane Schlatter (ne Shelley) of Brick, NJ, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, traveling and adventure. Ed is also survived by his sister Susan Thul; children Edward Schlatter and his wife Catherine; Richard Schlatter and his wife Kathleen; grandchildren Edward, Cameron, Evan, Emily, Lindsey and Erin; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Lillian and Edward Schlatter, his in-laws William and Emma (ne Jagersky) Shelley, and his brother-in-law Carl Thul.
Those who knew Ed will remember his quick wit, his many jokes, his love of a good story, and his unwavering dedication to spending time with his family. His presence brought warmth and joy to every gathering, and his legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd, Toms River, NJ 08753 on Friday April 11, 2025 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Funeral service will be held at 9:30am on Saturday April 12 at Church of the Visitation, 730 Lynnwood Ave, Brick, NJ 08723.
