Edward J. Scholz, 80, of Brookfield, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 4, 2025. The family is comforted knowing he spent his last days doing the things he loved most at their lake home in Rib Lake, WI.
Ed was born September 1, 1944 in Greenwood, WI to Emanuel and Viola (Jarchow) Scholz. He graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1962.
On June 26, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Karen Gilge. They were happily married for nearly 60 years.
Ed and Karen moved to Brookfield in 1970, where Ed worked at Highway Pavers Construction and then as a drywaller for Wisconsin Drywall. He retired at the age of 62 but continued to work part time as a delivery driver for Mavroff Landscaping Co.
Ed loved to be active and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. Regular weekend trips were made to their lake home throughout the years and time was well spent with family and friends. Visits with their grandkids and great grandkids were always cherished. He also loved playing sports, especially baseball, and did so much of his life. If he wasn't playing, he was coaching and proudly coached both boys as they were growing up. He was known for his speed and even in his older years he could outrun most of the younger guys, which is why he was often called "Fast Eddie".
Ed was a man of faith who led by example. While he was confidently quiet, he was always a protector and a tower of strength for his family. We find great comfort in knowing we will all be together again.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Karen; sons, Todd (Susie) of Rib Lake; Tom (Tara) of East Troy; grandchildren, Taylor Anne Kalkofen, Zachary Edward (Josie) Scholz; great-grandchildren, Kallie, Axel, Knyt, Charlie and Lainey; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and all of his siblings.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 17th at 11:00am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brookfield with lunch to follow.
Visitation will be from 9:00am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to Immanuel Lutheran Brookfield.
A Celebration of Life in Rib Lake is planned for late summer.

I am so very sorry to hear of Ed´s passing. He had so much more life left, I am sorry. I always had the utmost respect for Ed and I am sure everyone who knew him also did. I mean he was exceptional and special. Fast Edy you will be missed. I was fortunate to play a little softball with Ed. Always loved that guy. The story of Ed was perfect I think. Ed was a very rare and special a man. The best man. Karen, Todd and Tom it´s a huge loss I know, I can´t imagine. I have thought of Ed and Karen for years and never forget and never will forget who you are. Karen and Ed were life long friends to my mom, thank you. Rip Ed you are always in my heart.
