Edward Wayne Smoot Jr., a beloved companion, brother, and friend, passed away on November 25, 2024 at Our Hospice in Columbus, Indiana, leaving behind a legacy of joy and camaraderie that will not soon be forgotten. Born on June 8, 1948, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, Edward was raised in the vibrant atmosphere of Brookfield, Ohio, where he graduated from Brookfield High School in 1967
He was known for his fun-loving spirit and easy-going nature, always steering clear of conflicts and instead opting to embrace the laughter and warmth of those around him. Those who knew Edward fondly remember him as a cherished friend and an enthusiastic participant in life's adventures. Whether he was fishing or hunting, enjoying the great outdoors, hitting the golf course, or cheering passionately for his beloved Cleveland Browns, Edward found joy in simplicity and camaraderie with his buddies.
Edward’s warmth extended deeply to his family. He is survived by his loving sisters, Linda Kurtzman of Greenville, Pennsylvania, Susan Levering of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Becky Terkhorn of Seymour, Indiana, along with his brother Larry Smoot and his wife Lois of Brookfield, Ohio. His heart also belonged to Frances Jaynes of Flatrock, Indiana, who stood by him lovingly as his companion for twelve years.
Though he leaves behind a tribe of family and friends who will carry his spirit with them, Edward was preceded in death by his father, Edward Smoot Sr., his mother, Mary Hill Smoot, and his daughter, Heather Smoot. The echoes of laughter shared, the memories created, and the bonds formed will be held close by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service to honor Edward’s life will take place at the Houston Cemetery in Freetown, Indiana, on November 29, 2024, beginning at 11:00 AM. This gathering will provide a space for all who loved Edward to reflect, remember, and celebrate the light he brought into the world. As his story unfolds in the hearts of those he touched, Edward Wayne Smoot Jr. will forever remain a beacon of kindness, warmth, and unwavering friendship.
