Edward John Trainor of Succasunna NJ, passed away suddenly at home on September 20, 2025. He was born in Bronx NY on November 7, 1948 to Rita Veronica (Rowe) and Edward Trainor. Ed was the eldest of four children.

He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn June (Schmidt), daughter Megan June Dray and her husband Colin, son Kevin Patrick Trainor and his wife Caitlin DeLaura Trainor. He is also survived by his mother, Rita Veronica (Rowe) Trainor and his brother, Kevin Trainor and his wife Sandy, and his sister-in-law Jill (Schmidt) Budd and her husband Ron. Ed was a proud grandfather to 5 grandchildren, Colin James Dray, Connor Edward Dray, Emerson Mae Trainor, Mackenzie June Dray and his newest granddaughter, Chloe Wren Trainor born in April. He was also a proud uncle to his nieces, Molly Budd, Emily Trainor, and Kayla Brown, and his two nephews, Brian Budd and Daniel Trainor. Ed is predeceased by his father, Edward, his sister Mary Rose and his brother Patrick.

Ed was raised in Saddle Brook NJ. He became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Saddle Brook HS in 1967. He enlisted in the Air Force and served 4 years, including service in Vietnam, and later training for a career in law enforcement. Upon discharge, he was married to Jackie in April of 1972 and started his career as a patrolman with the Dover Police Department. He continued his education earning a business degree from William Paterson College and transitioned to a career in sales. In 1981, he founded Edtra Business Forms and later Ed's Printing and Promotions. He remained active in his business until his death. His secretary, Karen Brauer, has been by his side for the past 23 years.

Ed's greatest joy was being a father and grandfather. Ed participated in Indian Princesses with Megan and Indian Guides with Kevin, coached softball, and attended all of his children's many sporting events. Ed was a thoughtful, generous and caring neighbor and friend who made a lasting impact on everyone lucky enough to know him.

His story would not be complete without mention of his love for dogs. Most recently, he was the proud owner of a rescue Doberman named Duke who joined the family after losing their beloved Deja. Duke went everywhere with Ed and brought him pure joy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Doberman Rescue Unlimited, 52 Tunney Road, Sandown, NH 03873. www.dru.org

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. A celebration of life service will begin at 2:45pm.

Edtra as I first knew Ed from his email, became much more than a friend to my wife and I ! Through the last 14 years, Ed and I spoke often either on the phone or through texting. We shared many stories as we both were former Boy Scouts, Police Officers and Air Force Members. Whenever I would hang up from a phone call with Ed, my wife commented, Ed and I must have been brothers. She was soo correct as we were almost always on the same page always. Ed and I spoke often of our love for dogs and never was there a time, when he didnt ask, how my dog was doing.... Sometimes before myself..( ha ha ).......Ed was the Best Buddy, I never had the opportunity to meet in person, although I always felt we had. To say Ed was the kindest, caring and most generous man I have ever known, just does not cover who he really was. I will miss Ed beyond any words I can express; our many conversations and sharing of information. I asked Ed a few months ago if he could help me get a few signs together for a 4th of July parade; never expecting he would have the time... Ed, being the man he was, made it happen for me and our Fraternal Order of Police here was soo appreciative. They just don't make many men like my Buddy Ed ! God Bless you Edtra and my prayers are with you and your family to include the " Duke " !!! I will soon and for the 14th year, be at your lovely Condo and I promise to catch some fish and when I get the Biggun, I shall raise it high in the air in hopes you will see it ! Thank you for your friendship Ed, you will never be forgotten !
