Edward Richard Whitney, also known as Ed or Eddie, was born on November 11, 1949, in Bergenfield, New Jersey, and left this world peacefully October 8, 2025, surrounded by his family. He dedicated his life to supporting those he loved and was a well-respected figure in the cement and construction industry in Southwest Florida for fifty years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Joseph, his mother and stepfather Marguerite and David, and his cherished Japanese Chin, Mickey.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Laura, who lovingly cared for him following a significant health crisis in 2019 until his final moments. He also leaves behind two sons, Justin (Angelic) and Patrick, along with two grandchildren, Olivia and Liam. His twin sister, Kathleen, and his Japanese Chin, Rocky, are also part of his surviving family.
Edward was recognized for his strong work ethic and deep commitment to his craft. A talented professional, he served as a mentor to countless newcomers in the industry, instilling values of quality and honesty that had a profound effect on his peers and the local community. He once even allowed a trainee from Tennessee to stay with his family, enabling the young man to save up for his new life in Florida. That's what kind of man Ed was.
In his leisure time, Edward found joy in fishing with Patrick, and early morning tee-times on the golf course with Justin. He had a remarkable ability to tell stories that captivated audiences, bringing laughter and warmth wherever he went. Family gatherings were fundamental to Edward's life, and he cherished every opportunity to create lasting memories with his loved ones.
As we reflect on Edward's life, we honor a man who lived fully, filled with love, joy, and hard work. His absence will be felt deeply, but he will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. A private memorial service will be held at the family residence, inviting friends and family to share their cherished memories and pay tribute to his remarkable legacy.
