INDIAN LAND, SC – In loving memory of Edward (Eddie) Anthony Ziemak (January 16, 1925 – August 19,2023, 98 years old). Eddie was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Hollis, Queens. Growing up in the great depression, he worked from his early boyhood age of five shining shoes at the train station after school. He also acquired an appreciation for the game of golf as he worked at the golf course caddying for members on the weekends.
After finishing his high school studies, Eddie joined the US Navy and served in the Navy Air Force squadron VC-99 USS Maryland, flying numerous missions, and bringing POWs home from the Pacific Islands.
After the end of WWII, Eddie came home and started his career in the newspaper business as a touch-up photographer with the Daily Tribune. Soon after, he married Joan and had four children, Karen, Eddie, Susan, Donna and settled in Flushing Queens, NY.
Eddie enjoyed playing all types of sports at very high levels from baseball, golf and winning club championships to bowling and billiard trophies, too many to count and many quarters and dollar bills in his piggy bank from his card games and amazing pool shots.
Eddie continued his career with the Sun Times and then the New York Times, during this time he met and married his second wife Rose of forty-nine years and added daughters Denise and Connie to the growing family, including sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Eddie and Rose retired to the south and have enjoyed Sun City in Fort Mill SC for many years. Eddie continued his love for activities, collecting more quarters and dollar bills while holding court and flashing his big smile at the pool hall, bocce ball and horseshoe courts and dancing his polkas while celebrating his winnings.
In memory of Eddie, please consider making a charitable donation to the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House of Rock Hill, SC as they have been an incredible organization with so much love and support for both Eddie and Rose.
