Mr. Warmack passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Piedmont Health Care Center.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Bobbye C. Warmack; his parents, Marvin and Trudie Warmack; his brothers, Bernard Warmack, and Leroy Warmack; his sisters, Jewell Reid, Hazel Steed, and Nancy Doss.
He is survived by his son, Doug Warmack, and his wife Judy; his grandson, Kyle Warmack; his sister, Mary Burns; his brother-in-law, DeWitt Doss; and several nieces and nephews.
At age 16, while in Piedmont High School, Ed began his dry cleaning career at Johnson's Cleaners in Piedmont, Alabama. Ed was a 1949 graduate of Piedmont High School and on December 18, 1954, he married Bobbye Murray at Rabbittown Baptist Church. His cleaning career expanded over the years; working at Stewart's Cleaners, in Anniston, and Northgate Cleaners, in Lenlock. He was the former owner of a dry cleaning business, in Cave Spring, Georgia for a short time.
While in Cave Spring, they were blessed with their son, Doug. They then moved to Red Road 55 in Rabbittown. Later they built their home in Jacksonville, where they resided for 56 years. The family attended Rabbittown Baptist Church where Ed was active and served the Lord. He was a deacon, treasurer, and a member of the building committee. Ed and his family later attended Cedar Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and treasurer, under the guidance of pastors who became his close friends. He was also an active member of Gideon's International.
He opened Nu-Kleen Cleaners in 1967 alongside his wife Bobbye; with whom he enjoyed working until 2022, when she retired due to health reasons. Ed continued to work until 2025, when he reluctantly made the decision to leave due to his health.
Ed worked side by side with his son, Doug, for 46 years, teaching him the trade. Doug learned from the very best. Ed built his business based on honesty, integrity, and quality.
"We love our customers" was the slogan on the clothes hangers. Ed placed a sign behind his steam press that read: "Press On, It Won't Be Very Long".
He enjoyed the difficult challenges of removing stains and cleaning garments that were deemed hopeless by others. It brought him great joy to see smiles on the faces of his customers. He often joked that his co-owner, Bobbye, inspected everything he did and gave her approval. Ed enjoyed a good laugh and making others laugh. He also enjoyed fishing, cutting grass, and watching others work. All employees, past and present, enjoyed his sense of humor.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Warmack, Anthony Wade, Sam Steed, Nathan Whaley, Jack Whaley, and John Ross Whaley. His nephew, Ted Reid, will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
