Elaine Kovarik, 102, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at Green Oaks Senior Living, in Libertyville, IL. She taught at Daniel Burnham Middle School in Cicero IL for over 25 years. During WWII, she joined the Navy WAVES to proudly served her country from 1944-1946 and participated in a local VFW after leaving active duty.
Elaine received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, IL (class of 1949), and later a Master of Arts degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL (class of 1953). She regularly attended a Presbyterian church in Oak Park IL for many years, loved to travel the world with friends, and was dedicated to protecting the environment.
Elaine lived a long and meaningful life rooted in family. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Dale (Susan) Kovarik, Gary (Isabelle) Kovarik, Susan (Tom) Doyle, and Judy (Ken) Kopfman. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews Matthew (Caitlin) Kovarik, Margaret Kovarik, Austin and Josh Karpinski, Kiley (Tanner) Rosin, and Nick Doyle. Bringing abundant joy to her life this year, Elaine met and held her two great, great, nieces Sparrow Kovarik and Lainey Rosin.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Saturday, May 31, followed by a funeral at 11 AM at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park PI, Libertyville, IL, 60048. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The National Wildlife Federation httDsr/Zsupport.nwf.org/ or The Sierra Club https://act.sierraclub.org/donate.
