Elaine Ruth Untiedt

Elaine Ruth Untiedt, 80, of Hayfield, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.
Elaine was born January 26, 1944, to John Verbrugge and Edith (Oston) Verbrugge, in Estherville, Iowa. She was raised and spent her youth in Swea City, Iowa, with her two siblings, Margaret and John. Elaine graduated from Swea City High in 1962. She then attended Mankato State College, and earned her Bachelor's Degree in teaching. Elaine went on to teach 2nd and 4th grade in Fairmont, Minnesota, and Jackson, Minnesota.
In the fall of 1967, she met Richard Untiedt, and they were married June 29, 1968. They had two children, Kerri and Chris. After the children were born, Elaine stayed home to be a homemaker. They lived in Jackson, MN, from 1968 to 1986. Elaine and Richard moved with their family in 1986 to Hayfield, MN. There she was active with her church, First Presbyterian of Hayfield. Elaine worked wallpapering and painting for people, along with being an assistant librarian at Dodge Center Public Library. She also volunteered at Mayo Hospice and Hayfield Area Library. Elaine loved her cats, reading, and visiting with family and friends.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Richard; daughter Kerri (Troy) Ryan of Wisconsin Dells, WI; son Chris (Stephanie) Untiedt of Carlton, MN; three grandchildren, Emma and Ruby Ryan, Bradley Untiedt; her sister Margaret Kelly of Rochester, her sister-in-law Ruth (John) Verbrugge of Bullhead City, AZ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Jim Nolting of Iuka, MS; niece Heidi Wurtinger; nephews, Mike and Erik Nolting. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John (Ruth) Verbrugge.
A memorial service will be at 12:30 pm, Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW, Hayfield, Minnesota, with Pastor Brad VanderWaal officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow the service.
