Elbia Oviedo, 70, of Whiting, WI, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by the love of her family; the very people she devoted her entire life to.
Born on November 17, 1954, in San Juan del Plan, San Luis Potosí, México, Elbia was the beloved daughter of Maria Emeteria Banda (Lopez-Gonzalez) and Jose Otilio Banda. She was the second oldest of fifteen children, a role that shaped her into the strong, nurturing, and selfless woman so many loved. Growing up in San Juan del Plan, she learned early the values of faith, family, and hard work. She dedicated much of her youth to caring for her younger siblings and supporting her parents. These responsibilities molded her into the generous, compassionate, and deeply loving matriarch she became.
As a young woman, Elbia made the courageous decision to journey to the United States in pursuit of the American dream. With strength and perseverance, she built a life full of love, opportunity, and stability for her family. Through sacrifice, hard work, and unwavering faith, she achieved everything she set her heart on; not for herself, but for her children and future generations.
Her life story, from humble beginnings in Mexico to providing a better future in the U.S., is a lasting testament to her bravery, determination, and devotion. Elbia was known for being selfless, hardworking, giving, loving, and truly an angel on earth. Her faith in God never wavered and carried her through every challenge.
Elbia found joy in life's simple pleasures such as visiting the casino, stopping at Kwik Trip for her scratch-offs, and being surrounded by her children and grandchildren during the holidays, her favorite time of year. Her smile, laughter, and presence brought warmth to every gathering.
Elbia is survived by her devoted husband, Jose Santos Oviedo, who will deeply miss her and the life they built together; her beloved children: Fransico (Nancy), Corina (Jose Juan), Angelica (Lorenzo), Bianca (Ricky), Santos Jr., Jackie (Justin), Tanya (Dennis), and Emilio. and her memory lives on through her treasured grandchildren: Helena, Arkyn, Liam, Emiliano, Mateo, Allison, Emily, Evelyn, Marcos, Mia, Madeline, Fransisco Jr., Melanie, Kayla, and Amada. She is further survived by her siblings Blanca, Azucena, Mireya, and Victor, who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Elbia was preceded in death by her parents; her sons Saul and Jose Anastacio; her brothers Benito and Querino Banda; her sisters Domitila and Amada Banda; and her nephew Alberto "Tito" Banda.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 16, 2025, at Shuda's Plover Family Funeral Home (2400 Plover Road, Plover) from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM (midnight). A Funeral Mass will take place the following morning on November 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Bronislava Catholic Church, with burial to follow.
Family and friends are invited to come together to honor her memory, share stories, and celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her parents, her children, her siblings, and her loved ones in Heaven. Her love, faith, and strength will continue to guide us forever.
We will carry her in our hearts always.
