Charles Stevens Obituary

Charles "Charlie" T. Stevens was born on October 28, 1951. He passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity, creativity, and compassion.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife Rae L. Stevens (McCanna); his son Thomas Stevens (Rosy); step-daughter Elya Rowe; step-son Scott Coleman (Danielle); step-daughter Christine Coleman (Victor); and granddaughters Rose, Summyr, and Willow. He is also remembered by his former spouse Judy Bates.
Charlie retired from Sentry Insurance in Stevens Point. Among his proudest achievements during his varied career history was his work on the website for Harley Davidson's 100th anniversary celebration-a project that reflected his technical skill and passion for storytelling.
A dedicated member of Toastmasters from 1992 to 2016, Charlie became an accomplished speaker and speechwriter. He was honored with the prestigious T Award for his service, particularly for his work with the Youth Leadership program, where he mentored and inspired young speakers.
Charlie and Rae shared a love of ballroom dancing, having met at a dance and spent many joyful years together as members of Fred Astaire and Expressions dance clubs. Their talents were showcased at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee and in performances of The Nutcracker at the Sentry Theater in Stevens Point.
Charlie's deep appreciation for people was evident in every interaction. He approached others with curiosity and care, a perspective shaped by his study of tai chi. His dedication led him to master complex solo and sword sets, and his journey of study took him to North Carolina and even China.
Raised as a Seventh Day Adventist, Charlie carried a sense of peace, hope, and love with him his whole life. His curiosity and love of learning lead him to study Buddhism and other religious and spiritual traditions. Charlie was a vegetarian for much of his life.
His adventurous spirit sent him on memorable trips to Alaska, Seattle, New York, Cancun, Texas, and California. Toastmasters gave him the tools to share captivating stories from these journeys, many of which he experienced with Rae by his side.
While living in San Francisco, Charlie began to study magic. The art of illusion piqued his curiosity for many years. He was a practicing member of the Houdini Society and particularly enjoyed practicing slight-of-hand and card tricks.
Charlie was a lifelong lover of books, movies, and music. He built an impressive library of science fiction novels and read daily. Charlie's love of music was lifelong, fostered early by participation in choir and band while in school. His later musical tastes were eclectic, but he held a special fondness for the Grateful Dead. He also enjoyed collecting crystals and other minerals and rocks.
Charlie will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the dances he shared, and the lives he touched.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Shuda Funeral Chapel – 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
Shuda Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
