Richard "Rich" Derezinski, of Stevens Point, passed away at home on October 29, 2025, at the age of 78.
Rich was born March 28, 1947, in
Stevens Point, WI; son of the late Edwin and Theresa (Schultz) Derezinski. He grew up in the area where he attended school at St. Peter's and graduated from Pacelli with the Class of 1965.
Following high school, Rich went on to marry Susan Wachowiak in 1966. They went on to welcome two sons and spent nearly 60 blissful years together. To support his family, RIch first worked for Spur Gas Stations. He began in Appleton and later in Stevens Point, until an opportunity arose to purchase a bowling establishment in Plover, which he renamed "Rich's Super Bowl". In 1986, he hosted three consecutive PBA Midwest Regional tournaments, called the Point Special Open and was sponsored by Stevens Point Brewery. Rich was extremely proud of those events. He then went on to purchase the former "Tomorrow River Lanes" in Amherst Junction where the Tomorrow River Lions Club co-sponsored several 9-Pin Tap tournaments until the business was sold in 2001.
Rich was also proud to serve in the United States' National Guard following high school until 1972. More recently, he was a member of the Amvets Post 1051.
Rich led a life of determination and hard work which led to success in many aspects of life. While his family was his greatest accomplishment, he was also proud of his businesses and found time to enjoy his hobbies, which included fishing and telling funny stories. He also had a love for sports which included bowling, of course, as well as baseball. He loved to talk baseball with his friend, Hal Panetti, and one of his most cherished memories was being an extra in a commercial with Bob Uecker! In August of 1985, Rich was invited to Milwaukee to film two 30-second commercials to promote fall bowling leagues, which took 12 hours to film. "It's something I'm glad I did and it was a very good experience," he said. Upon retiring, Rich continued to enjoy fishing, especially catching muskies in Northern Wisconsin. He also found enjoyment in flea markets and often went with his Uncle Jim and Aunt Dorothy.
Rich is lovingly survived by his wife, Susan; his sons, Jeffrey and Dan (Marybeth) Derezinski; his four grandsons, Andrew, Russell, Quintin, and Logan; and one great-grandson, Dominik. He is further survived by his brother, Frank (Judy) Derezinski of Minnesota; a sister, Rita Derezinski of Madison, WI; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Doug) Zuege and Cynthia (Jason) Mortimer; two brothers-in-law, Mark (Terri) Wachowiak and Jere "JD" Fluno; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Theresa; two sisters, Rose (John) McIlhone and Anne Fluno; an infant brother, Norbert; and a brother-in-law, Frank Wachowiak.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the team from Compassus for their excellent hospice care.
Funeral services for Rich will be held at a later date.
