Doris Anne Lemke (Frost), 82, of Plover, passed away on October 31, 2025, at her home, under Hospice care after an unexpected illness. She was surrounded by family, friends, and caregivers.
Doris was born July 5, 1943, in Babcock, WI; daughter of Donald and Beulah Frost (Gage). She grew up in Babcock, attended elementary school there, and graduated from Pittsville High School in 1961. During high school, she and her sister, Donna, ran the Frosty Drive-In, a local favorite attached to her father's repair shop.
After graduation, Doris worked in Human Resource at Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Company and later as a teacher assistant in Pittsville and throughout the Stevens Point Area School District. She married Ken Lemke on July 6, 1963, in Pittsville, and they moved to Plover in 1978. They were married for over 60 years. Doris was a loving wife; mother to Tim and Tracey; and special grandmother to Preston.
Doris had a gift for working with children and spent 30 years with the Stevens Point School District, mostly at Plover-Whiting Elementary. She was known for her kind heart, quick wit, and ability to brighten a tough day for elementary students. She loved reconnecting with former students as adults, often while out shopping or dining.
Family and friendships meant everything to Doris. She cherished watching her children's and grandson's activities and made lifelong friends through those experiences. For over 50 years, she enjoyed annual camping trips to the Minocqua area with family and friends. She had a knack for finding great rummage sales and loved shopping with friends, mostly for the laughter and good company.
In retirement, Doris and Ken spent winters in Port Aransas, Texas, where they joined a close-knit group of Winter Texans. She treasured beach walks, line dancing, pool time, coffee on the porch, and watching ships pass through the channel, especially when shared with her sisters, brothers-in-law, and cousins.
Doris also enjoyed country and bluegrass festivals, fishing trips to Canada in her earlier years, and traveling with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson to celebrate milestone anniversaries.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Tracey (David) Lemke Schleihs, and grandson, Preston Schleihs, both of Stevens Point. She is further survived by her sisters and brothers, Jacquie Erwin (Carl); Sally Raab (Gary); Peggy Pelot (Howard); Walt Frost, Faye Nessa (Arne); and Rex Frost; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Lemke; her son, Timothy Lemke; her father, Donald Frost; her mother, Beulah (Gage); a brother, Jerry Frost; and her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Dick Iverson.
A funeral service will be held for Doris at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - 2000 Roosevelt Drive, Plover. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home that day from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at a later date at Village of Plover Cemetery.
Shuda Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
