Elda Mae Bass, 82
Elda Mae Bass died August 12, 2024. She was born on April 26, 1942 in Arcadia, Florida. She was the youngest child of Oscar and Zona Bass and was raised in Okeechobee, Florida.
Her interest in agriculture began at an early age, she received her first brand at three years old!
She graduated from Okeechobee High School in the Class of 1960. After high school, she worked many years in the installment loan department of Okeechobee County Bank. She was the first female installment loan officer in the Okeechobee County Bank, which was the only commercial bank in town.
She was a lifetime member of the Okeechobee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a member of Farm Bureau, and a member of the Basinger Christian Brethren Church.
She was the first and only female president of the Okeechobee Cattlemen's Association.
She had many interests, including ranching, gardening, and reading. She loved spending time with her family, her church family, and her cows!
Miss Bass was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Zona Durrance Bass; aunt, Zetta Hunt; uncle, Zeb Durrance; brothers, Elwyn Bass and Glenn Bass (Patsy); nephew, Quinn Bass; and niece, Marcia Bass McGowan.
She is survived by her brother, James C. Bass (Joanne), and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Basinger Christian Brethren Church, the mailing address is 14626 NW 34th TERR, Okeechobee FL 34972.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Basinger Cemetery.
