Eldon "Gene" Hoyer age 76, of Diamond, Missouri, passed away on September 25, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, with his wife at his side. Gene faced every challenge with strength, grace, and unwavering hope, inspiring all who knew him. Gene was born August 22, 1949, in Brush, Colorado, to Eldon Aubrey Hoyer and Elsie Cloha Knox. After graduating from Diamond high school, he served in the Army National Guard and later built a successful career in banking. Gene had a lifelong passion for farming. He found great joy spending time outdoors with his family, especially fishing, camping, and traveling. These moments brought him happiness and created cherished memories that will be treasured forever.

On June 1, 1968, Gene married the love of his life, Cheryl Sorg. Together they shared 57 years of marriage and built a beautiful life and family.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Cheryl and their children: Christopher (Holly) Hoyer of Joplin, MO; Brent (Shannel) Hoyer of Arlington, VA; and Genea (Darran) Hall of Rochester, MN. He was a proud grandfather to Austin, Layton, Hannah, and Cameron, and a cherished great-grandfather to Addy, Payton, William, Brock, Lilly, Layne, Rhett, and River.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Laverne Hoyer.

He was laid to rest on October 1, 2025, at Diamond Cemetery.

Gene will be remembered for his steady presence and his deep love for family. His legacy lives on in those who knew and loved him.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic and Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN.

Services are under the personal care and direction of Clark Funeral Homes.
