Sr. Eleanor Pozzo (Eleanor Pozzo) died peacefully on April 7, 2025 at Sacred Heart Manor, Hamden, CT. She was 92 years old and professed as an Apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for 70 years. Sr. Eleanor, daughter of the late Camillo and Virginia (Ferrario) was born on March 25, 1933, in St. Louis, MO. Sr. Eleanor entered the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on August 30, 1952 in Hamden, CT. She professed First Vows on August 24, 1955 and Perpetual Vows on August 24, 1959 in Hamden, CT.
Sr. Eleanor (previously known as Sr. Mary Camillus) was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Lena (Carolli), Louise (Berra), Emil, John, Connie (Williams) and Mario (Mike) Pozzo. She is also lovingly remembered for her generous, humble and prayerful presence by her religious family, the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and by many family members and friends.
Sr. Eleanor began her apostolic ministry at St. Donato Parish in
New Haven, CT in 1954. She was certified as an LPN at St. Vincent Hospital in Bridgeport, CT in 1958, and her service to Church and to her community included healthcare, pastoral ministry, formation accompaniment and education. She served as a group mother at Clelian Heights in Greensburg, PA and as caretaker of Sacred Heart on the Lake in Higganum, CT, and had a total of 17 fond years serving at Sacred Heart Villa in St. Louis, MO. Sr. Eleanor retired to Sacred Heart Manor in 2019 where she faithfully fulfilled her mission as an Apostle Adorer.
The wake for Sr. Eleanor Pozzo will take place on April 15, 2025 at Sacred Heart Manor Chapel, 261 Benham St., Hamden, CT from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 16 at Sacred Heart Manor Chapel at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, CT. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sr. Eleanor Pozzo to the retirement fund of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 295 Benham Street, Hamden, CT 06514.
