Pastor Eleanor Orton Bellows

Pastor Eleanor Orton Bellows, 91, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed peacefully to her eternal home on June 19, 2025, with her family by her side.
Eleanor was born on March 10, 1934, in North Bangor, NY, to Henry and Florence (Woods) Hurteau. She grew up locally and graduated from Brushton High School in 1952. That same year, she married Edwin H. Orton. They raised two children, John and Janine, on the family dairy farm. Eleanor participated in several community activities and organizations supporting her family and church. Edwin passed in 1979.
In 1982, Eleanor married Stanley A. Bellows of North Bangor, NY. They were together for 39 years until Stan's death in 2021. Eleanor and Stan took great pleasure in their travels to Florida, evenings spent dancing at the local Moose lodge, and hosting card games and gatherings with dear friends and family.
In the 1990s, Eleanor pursued further education to answer her calling to ministry, becoming a United Methodist Pastor and serving congregations in Chateaugay and Brainardsville, NY, from 1999 to 2005.
Along with her beloved husbands and parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her siblings: Lewis Hurteau, Elaine Turner, Reginald Hurteau and Noelia Carter.
Eleanor is lovingly remembered by her children, John (Felicia) Orton and Janine (Mike) Hulland; her grandchildren, Julie (Shawn) Hover, Jalene Orton, Victoria (Edward) French and Robin Orton; and her great grandchildren, Marissa, Alexah, Tyler, Veronica, Alex, Thea and Isla Rose; and several nieces and nephews.
Eleanor delighted in being a Mother and Nanny. She was often heard bragging about her grandchildren. Eleanor was widely known for her generous spirit, wise counsel, and amazing baked goods.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 25 at the Chateaugay United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a memorial service immediately following at 11 a.m.
Burial will be held in Sunnyside Cemetery, Brushton.
Memorial donations may be given to either the Chateaugay/Brainardsville United Methodist Church or to Life Path Hospice, Chapters Health Foundation, 12470 Telecom Drive, Suite 301, Temple Terrace, FL 33637.
