ELEANOR C. COLLINS
POSEYVILLE, INDIANA
Eleanor "Ellie" Cecelia (Straub) Collins, 91, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023 at West River Health Campus in Evansville, Indiana with her family by her side. Ellie was born to Joseph C. and Anna M. (Reising) Straub on December 31, 1931 in Cynthiana, Indiana.
She was a lifetime member of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Poseyville, Indiana, where she had previously taught Sunday School and sang in the funeral choir. She attended Poseyville High School, but the family moved and she graduated from Cynthiana High School in 1949. After graduation, she travelled overseas with her father on a memorable trip to Germany and met some of her ancestors. She then worked at Emge Packing in Ft Branch, Indiana and at Mead Johnson in Evansville, Indiana. In 1957, she married James "JW" Collins at St Anthony's Church (Now All Saints) in Evansville, Indiana. Ellie was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker. She was known for her spotless home, delicious desserts and tasty meals. She always had a servant's heart and loved treating her guests to some of her homemade foods whenever they stopped in. Her Strawberry-Rhubarb Jam and Pies along with her famous Pumpkin Cake and variety of cookies were just a few. Her gardening skills were also very notable as she canned many varieties of her own fruits and vegetables.
She is survived by her 3 children: Deborah Collins, Sunrise, Florida, Gregory Collins of Evansville, Indiana and Steve (Carol) Collins of Poseyville, Indiana; 2 grandchildren: Justin (Abby) Collins and Derek Collins, both of Poseyville, Indiana; 3 beautiful great-granddaughters: Carly, Eleanor and Mariam along with 2 sisters: Rose Catherine Weiss and Magdalena Patricia "Pat" Emge both of Evansville, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years: James "JW" Collins; brothers; John Charles, Joseph, Bernie, Edward, Ignatius, Robert Henry, Raymond, Peter, Sr. and an infant Paul and sisters: Mary Emma Grigsby and Anna Marie "Reetzy" Jenkins.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023 with memorial service starting at 4 p.m. at Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville, Indiana.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2023 at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Poseyville, Indiana with Father Ed Schnur officiating and burial in St Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cemetery following the Mass.
A special thanks to Eleanor's daughter-in-law: Carol, for her care and compassion during last several years of her life, and Dr. Chester Burkett and his staff for the many years of healing touch. The family would like to express appreciation to Solarbron, West River Healthcare and Heart to Heart Hospice who helped Eleanor in her journey.
