Eleanor Laky Obituary

She graduated from Washington Lee High School in Arlington, VA in 1965. After graduating, she worked for the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and in the office of the Director of Naval Intelligence in the Pentagon where she met and married her sailor husband, Eugene John Laky, on 2 November 1967.
Eleanor attended Northern Virginia Community College for secretarial science. She retired as a Virginia State employee who worked for the Virginia Beach City Public School Administration, Virginia Beach Department of Health and Fairfax County Police Department.
She is survived by her long time husband of 57 years, Eugene John Laky; daughter, Katrina Christine Copeland of Moyock, NC; and grandchildren Jay Copeland II of Richmond, VA, and Dr. Alexandria Elizabeth Copeland, OT, of Jacksonville, FL; son, Eugene John Laky and twin grandchildren Kara Gayle and Sara Elizabeth Laky of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Brian Douglas Laky of Martinsburg, WV; brother, Eugene James Carine, Jr. of Capon Bridge, WV; brother, William Carine of Annandale, VA; and sister, Anna Carine Brennan of Fredericksburg, VA.
She was an avid Washington Redskins fan who enjoyed cooking, reading, camping, walking, and traveling. Her family and friends will truly miss her Blueberry Delight dessert and spaghetti with homemade meatballs and Italian sausage. Her grandchildren always looked forward to a good meal at Nana's.
Eleanor was a former girl scout assistant leader and volunteer librarian. She generously supported numerous charities including St. Joseph's Indian School, Boys Town, Girl Scouts, Disabled American Veterans, several public libraries, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, and Easter Seals.
