Obituary of Eleanor Jean Powell
Memorial services for Eleanor Jean Powell will be held July 22, 2022, at 10:30 AM at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden, Louisiana, with Reverend Bill Crider officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden, Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, July 21st at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Jean was born January 1, 1938, in Grayville, Illinois, to Bessie and Harry Daugherty and entered into rest June 23, 2022, in Denver, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband JB Powell and sons Mark Powell and Jay Powell.
She has survived by her daughter Kelly Behrendt and husband Richard of Aurora, Colorado, and son David Powell and husband Michael Flowers of Austin, Texas, grandchildren Jennifer and Adam Powell, Jordan and Madison Powell, David Behrendt, great grandchild Lakynn Futch as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters Jo Ipock and Alma Williams of Farmington, New Mexico.
This small-town girl met her service man in Madison, Wisconsin. She embraced military life, raising her family across the globe from England to Hawaii which led her to a lifetime of adventure. In retirement, they settled down in small town Minden and began a different type of service, working at the local polls and serving the community church. Along with her dear friend, Ms. Betty Walker, the two tackled whatever was needed from Wednesday night youth meals, to delivering meals to shut-in widows or families in crisis. When she was not serving her community, she loved reading, traveling, cooking, and working crossword puzzles. These hobbies served her well in watching Jeopardy or solving Wordle, which she also enjoyed. She was a great cook who made a killer Chicken Pot Pie.
Jean will be greatly missed. Her earthly body has been eternally cured, and she is the picture of health and happiness in Christ's arms.
