She was born in Nyack, NY on July 31st, 1948, the daughter of the late Dick and Elly Youngs. She graduated from Penn Yan Academy's Class of 1967. She worked as a broker for over 20 years for Stork Insurance and was a member of the Penn Yan United Methodist Church.
Elinor Jay is survived by her daughter, Shantel Leigh Champlin of Penn Yan; son, Darren Kyle Champlin of Penn Yan; great grandchildren who know her as "Gummie", Noah Sean Andrews and Nathan Charles Andrews; sisters, Amy (Bill) of Penn Yan, Leane (Mike) of Auburn and Ginger (Fred) of Seneca Falls; brothers, Dick (Bunny) of Penn Yan, Bob (Rose) of Penn Yan, Randy (Susan) of Atlantis, FL, and Steve (Lisa) of Penn Yan, and long time friend, Don Wager; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Roger and granddaughter, Brianna Leigh Champlin-Andrews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm at the Penn Yan Elks, 133 Main St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Humane Society of Yates County, PO Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
