Elinor Tio Salcedo was an incredible mother, an amazing grandmother, and a wonderful sister, aunt, and friend. She took her rest and went to be with our Lord on March 16, 2024 at 93 years old
She was born in the Philippines to Anacleta and Carlos Salcedo on May 24, 1930, the second of 9 children. At a young age, she kept her younger siblings safe during World War Two, as the Japanese invaded the Philippines. After college at the University of the Philippines, where she earned a degree in Home economics, she migrated to Canada, and then the United States. In 1972 she had her only child, Susan, in New Jersey. She spent several years as a dietitian before becoming a live in child care giver, until 2001 when she became a grandmother.
Elinor enjoyed crocheting, line dancing, traveling, cooking and gardening. She was a devout Catholic, attending every mass she could get to, watching on TV when she couldn't, and sharing her talents with the church community. She was the first in her family to come to America and subsequently supported her siblings and their children in coming to the U.S.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Vilma, and her brothers Roberto, Carlos, and Fernando. She leaves her sister Evelina, and brothers Angel, Carmelo, and Estanislao, her daughter Susan (sp. Troy), and her grandchildren and greatest joy Khayri, Darian and Gabrielle.
Her funeral mass and internment will be held on April 6, 2024 at 9:00am at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
